The change caused by an intervention compared with what would have happened without it.

Why it matters

The practical consequence.

Attribution can report who touched a conversion; incrementality asks whether the activity actually created additional results.

Example

A geographic holdout can estimate whether an advertising campaign generated sales beyond the existing baseline.
